Polytetra buyer guide

PTFE rods & products: buyer's guide

Start with the finished part and its service conditions. PTFE rods provide machinable stock for bushes, seats, spacers and insulators; sheets support gasket cutting and liners. Drawing-based components, paper-industry parts, lined equipment and braided packing cover different duties. This buyer's guide links every catalogue product and the relevant engineering answers.

PTFE rods: diameter, length and machining

The rod catalogue lists extruded diameters of 5–100 mm and moulded diameters of 100–300 mm, with 300, 500 and 1000 mm standard lengths and custom cuts. Choose stock with machining allowance for the finished part. Confirm virgin or filled grade, drawing tolerances and inspection requirements; do not infer finished-part performance from rod size.

Virgin or filled PTFE stock?

Virgin PTFE is a starting point for purity and broad chemical resistance. Glass, carbon, bronze and MoS₂-filled rod grades address different mechanical requirements. Review chemical compatibility, load, temperature and mating surfaces before specifying a filler.

From stock shapes to finished components

Use standard rods, sheets and tape for stock and maintenance needs. Specialized gaskets, seats, balls, hoses and bellows require geometry and process conditions. Paper-industry bushes, rings and syphon shoes should match the machine drawing.

Lined flow equipment and packing

For corrosive fluid handling, review the liner and complete pipe, valve or fitting assembly. For stuffing boxes, select braided packing by equipment duty, section size and medium. Material temperature data alone does not approve either construction.

Prepare a quotation request

Send product name, quantity, drawing, dimensions, grade, medium and concentration, normal and maximum temperature, pressure or vacuum, speed where relevant and required inspection documents. Use each linked product's quote button to keep the request product-specific.
